Cautionary tale of the NIL and the NFL DRAFT

QUINN EWERS:

He was reportedly offered $8 million (??) to play one more season of college football, which he turned down to go to the draft. As a 7th round pick, he will make about $4.3 mil over the next four years, costing him about $7 million next year alone as he will only make about 800k on his rookie deal.

Likely result:

More college players will exhaust their college eligibility if they aren’t guaranteed to be a day 1 or day 2 pick and they have a large standing NIL offer.

  • FAFONFL is a tough business. Rounds 5-7 are plug and play clones that can be 400 different D1 players. Stay and get that degree AND stack that back account with NIL money.

  • Creative DirectorEspecially at QB and WR where if you're (average size 5'11-6'1" and not Kyler Murray-level athlete) on a $800K+ NIL, you stay. in college.

  • Hit the PortalLots of 7th rounders wish they had stayed 1 more year in D1 especially Ewers.

  • Casino KingTexas was not going to give Ewers that money because they're ready for the Arch Manning era. I suspect another SEC team or a USC-type was very willing. Definitely going forward if you get Day 3 (rounds 4-7) reports, then stay in D1 and get your $2 mil guaranteed if you're WR1 or QB1 at your university.
