All signs point to the Las Vegas Raiders staying put at No. 1 overall and selecting Fernando Mendoza, even after signing veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins to a one-year, $20 million deal. That decision, however, raises a new question: when should the rookie take over as the starter?
Head coach Klint Kubiak indicated at the NFL owners meeting that the team would prefer Mendoza to sit and develop rather than start immediately. The signing of Cousins reinforces that plan, positioning the veteran as a classic bridge quarterback.
However, not everyone agrees with a delayed debut. ESPN’s Mike Greenberg believes the Raiders should take a flexible approach.
